Minor League Baseball Top Performers

A minor league team scored 24 runs on Wednesday, and multiple pitchers had elite outings, though fairly short ones. Let’s take a look at the top performers across minor league baseball from Wednesday and look ahead to Thursday’s games!

Hitter of the Day
One of the biggest prep power bats in the 2019 draft, Rece Hinds was selected by the Reds in the second round and has struggled to fully tap into his raw power in his time in the Cincinnati organization. Despite that, he was promoted to High-A to open 2022, and he’s struggled to open the season. If Wednesday was his breakout, it was an impressive way to do so, as Hinds went 5-6 across a doubleheader, scoring three runs, driving in three runs, and powering out a pair of home runs.

Pitcher of the Day
Lefty Noah Cameron was drafted by the Royals in the seventh round last summer out of Central Arkansas. The Royals have maximized college arms recently, so it was a great spot for Cameron to land, but he had a long way to go as he returned from Tommy John surgery. He has had inconsistent stuff in 2022 so far with Columbia, working in the upper-80s some starts and the low-90s with his fastball in other starts, ranging from a very high-spin offering that has late movement to a heavy sinking pitch that is tough to barrel. The change is his best pitch, arguably a plus offering, regardless of how his fastball is working from start to start. As is the case for many guys coming off TJ, his control wavers from start to start, but Wednesday, he had an impressive outing, tossing five perfect innings, striking out seven.
