Minor League Baseball Top Performers

Some of the top pitching performances around minor league baseball were overshadowed by a pair of performances in Reading on Thursday. While a number of hitters had great days, one of the most consistent performers of the day got the nod for the day.

Hitter of the Day
Growing up around major league baseball his entire life as his father works as a strength and conditioning coach in MLB, Alek Thomas was a highly-touted prospect in the 2018 draft, going in the second round out of high school in Chicago. He’s moved quickly through the Arizona minor league system, showing tremendous natural baseball instincts, handling center field with ease due to tremendous jumps and feel for where he is on the field. He also has a very good judgment of the strike zone at the plate, which will likely push Thomas to the big league club sooner rather than later. He has been steady all season, but had a big game on Thursday, going 2-3 with a pair of walks, scoring three times, driving in a pair of runs, hitting a double, a home run, and stealing a base to fill up the box score.

Pitcher of the Day
The Boston Red Sox are going to need arms to be able to compete in the AL East race this season. They very well may dip into their Double-A rotation to find those reinforcements. On Thursday Brandon Walter and Brayan Bello dominated in a doubleheader. Walter has been one of the top-performing pitchers all season, and on Thursday, he posted another gem, tossing six shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk, striking out 10. Bello took things up a notch from his teammate. He tossed seven no-hit innings, allowing three walks, striking out five.

I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
