Minor League Baseball Top Performers

Tuesday’s minor league baseball games may not have had some of the absolutely outrageous statistical games on the mound or at the plate that have been seen recently, but there were plenty of big-time performances up and down the minors. Let’s take a look!

Hitter of the Day
Those who follow prospects closely may feel like Esteury Ruiz has hit the point of retread, aged-out prospect, but Ruiz is just 23. He was one of the youngest members of his signing class in 2015 when he signed with Kansas City. He came to the Padres’ organization through a six-player trade in 2017, and he’s still trying to make his way beyond Double-A. Ruiz has raw, loose power in his compact swing along with plus speed. This year, he’s really stepped up his discipline at the plate, and the results have been impressive. Ruiz had a big game Tuesday for San Antonio, going 3-4 with a double and a pair of home runs, scoring three times and driving in three runs, adding in a walk on the day.

Pitcher of the Day
Part of the Los Angeles Angels’ deep class of drafted pitching in the 2021 draft, Brett Kerry was selected last summer in the fifth round out of South Carolina with a background as a reliever, but a reliever with an intriguing profile. Kerry had the ability to hold low-90s with his fastball with excellent life on the pitch, and he added in four other pitches – a slider, cutter, curve, and change – that all rate average at best, but that he controlled tremendously well. Kerry has used his diverse repertoire to attack hitters this season, and he’s kept hitters off-balance, striking out 38 over 25 innings this season, with his command/control his most impressive tool at this point. Tuesday, Kerry pitched his longest game for Rocket City, going seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk, striking out six.

Today’s games

Pitching matchup of the day
The matchup Wednesday between Daytona and Jupiter will feature two under-radar arms that should definitely be garnering more attention. Julian Aguiar of Daytona has been very impressive this season after being the talk of Reds’ minor league camp this spring while Jupiter’s Edgar Sanchez has not exactly had the same raw stuff, but he’s been able to keep hitters off base and keep the ball in the park very well.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
