Minor League Baseball Top Performers

Some of the elite prospects in minor league baseball had big weeks over the past week, but many of the top performances came from guys that were completely off the radar this week.

Hitter of the Week
There are few hitters in all of minor league baseball who impact the ball stronger than Trey Cabbage. The Minnesota Twins drafted Cabbage out of high school in 2015 before letting him go as a minor league free agent. He signed with the Angels organization, and he’s absolutely crushed the ball this season, but over the past week, he even controlled his swing and miss tendencies. Cabbage posted a .471/.609/1.059 line with a double and three home runs over the past week. On the season, Cabbage is slashing .356/.484/.781 with five doubles, a triple, eight home runs, and five stolen bases on the season.

Pitcher of the Week
One of the youngest players in all of Double-A, elite righty Eury Perez had struggled some in his first three starts in his Double-A time, though he was still striking out plenty of hitters. His start Friday was what everyone has been waiting for, however, as he shut down Biloxi, striking out 12 hitters over five innings, allowing one hit and no walks. Perez very well could end up the top pitching prospect in the game by the end of the season.

Pitching matchup of the day
Two brothers square off Tuesday in the series opener between Wichita and Tulsa. Louie Varland was the darling of many last year as he jumped up multiple levels in the Minnesota Twins system. His brother Gus has been an opener in the Los Angeles Dodgers system and toes the rubber for Tulsa.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
