Minor League Baseball Top Performers

Saturday was apparently “Andrew” day in minor league baseball as both top performers are named Andrew. There were other incredible performances on the day that were on par with both guys, but they were just a hair better. Let’s look at Saturday’s best and prepare for the final day of the sixth week of minor league ball already this year!

Hitter of the Day
No longer rookie eligible, Washington’s Andrew Stevenson has been part of the organization since the Nationals selected him in the second round in 2015 out of LSU. Stevenson has fourth outfielder skills, excellent defensively around the outfield, but his bat has never held up enough in the majors to consistently hold a bench role. He’s hit .301 for Rochester this year, but had a big night on Saturday, going 5-5 at the plate with three doubles.

Pitcher of the Day
For the second time this season, we’ll be honoring the Reds’ Andrew Abbott with the daily award. The lefty from the University of Virginia has posted a 0.55 ERA and 0.80 WHIP on the season over 32 2/3 innings, striking out 52 hitters with Dayton and now Chattanooga. Abbott made his first start Saturday in Double-A, and he wasn’t fazed at all by the jump, equaling a season high with 12 strikeouts over 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and walking none.

Today’s games

Pitching matchup of the day
After an incredible 2021, Ryan Murphy makes his 2022 debut in the Giants system for Eugene. He will be opposed by Vancouver hurler Chad Dallas, in his first full season out of Tennessee. While neither may be a future ace, both have shown the impressive ability that could portend future major league careers.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
