Minor League Baseball Top Performers

Another day in minor league baseball, another no-hitter. The minors have seemingly had a no-hitter from at least one team every day of the last week, and many of those big events have sparked the top pitcher of the day as well, while others, like Sunday, were spread among a number of pitchers and didn’t really impact the discussion of the top individual of the day. Let’s look at Sunday’s best!

Hitter of the Day
The Yankees’ farm system had a number of breakout performances from infielders last season. They spun off a few of those breakouts in the deal to bring in Joey Gallo at midseason. Ezequiel Duran was one of those that the Rangers acquired, and he’s had a very solid season with Double-A Frisco this season, but his performance Sunday was a day to remember for any hitter. Duran went 4-4 with a walk, pounding out a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs, scoring five runs and driving in five runs. Duran’s worked between second and short throughout this season, and he has the glove to work up the middle, though he may not have the range to handle short in the majors. He should push toward the majors by 2023.

Pitcher of the Day
Many people forget that part of the trade that brought Nick Pivetta to Boston also brought a young minor league hurler as well. Connor Seabold was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 2017 draft. He’s now pitching with Triple-A Worcester and he’s using his elite command and control to show that he’s ready to be the first guy to step in if the Red Sox would need a spot starter. Seabold only works in the low-90s with his fastball, but he uses three offspeed pitches that are average or better. Sunday was a good example of Seabold at his best, as he struck out 11 over six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk against Rochester.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
