At times it’s hard to see the point in spending the heavy time many of us do in minor league baseball. Then, you read an anniversary like today, from Baseball-Reference’s “on this day” for August 18th. You see that Roberto Clemente, still in the Dodgers system, got national exposure on his 20th birthday in 1954 when he uncorked a powerful throw from right field to get the final out of the game at home plate, nabbing the potential game-tying run and allowing Montreal to win 8-7.
