Minor League Baseball Weekly Top Performers

With minor league baseball leagues now in championships at the A-ball level and in the final week of the regular season in AA, we’ll take a look at the league leaders, starting with complex levels this week. Announcements about the Arizona Fall League should be coming soon as well!

Hitter of the Week
When the Seattle Mariners drafted Cade Marlowe out of West Georgia in the 20th round in 2019, they got a guy that was going to maximize his tools. While Marlowe’s not going to get a scout to throw a “plus” on any of his raw tools, he now has been a 20/20 player the last two seasons, and this year he’s posted a slash line of .293/.381/.486. This week, Marlowe had a huge week, slashing .480/.552/1.280 with a pair of doubles and slamming six home runs. Marlowe is likely going to move to Triple-A in 2023, and if he can continue to maximize his tools, there could be a career for him as a fourth outfielder, though he’s already 25.

Pitcher of the Week
The Cleveland Guardians selected Ryan Webb in the fourth round in 2021 out of the University of Georgia. The lefty showed well in 2020 but slipped off in 2021. He’s worked in the low-90s as a starter after working 95-97 consistently as a fireman reliever in college. Webb works with a curve and slider with a change that has flashed plus. When his control is on, Webb looks like a guy who could feature in the middle of a rotation, but he’s struggled to keep the ball located well in his first full season this year. He did have a great week this past week for Lynchburg, tossing a total of nine scoreless innings, allowing seven hits and three walks, striking out 17.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
