Minor League Baseball Top Performers for August 30, 2022

Minor League Baseball Weekly Top Performers

Congratulations to the first minor league baseball champions of 2022, the FCL Yankees and ACL Giants Black squads, both of whom won league titles this week. The DSL Rockies and DSL Phillies White begin play today in the finals of the Dominican Summer League.

Hitter of the Week
The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted James Outman out of Sacramento State in the seventh round of the 2018 draft. He’s moved up the system step-by-step, but he has shown impressive power/speed combination every season. Outman had a four-game major league stint for his debut earlier this month, but he’s going to be tough to keep in the minors the way he’s been hitting. Outman filled up the stat sheet this week, even recording a cycle – one that he capped off with a walk-off home run. On the week, Outman hit .571/.565/1.381 with five doubles, three triples, a pair of home runs, and 14 RBI. The Dodgers very likely will give him more run as the season winds down.

Pitcher of the Week
The Texas Rangers signed Emiliano Teodo out of the Dominican in 2020. He made his debut in 2021 and his full-season debut in 2022. Teodo features a fastball that sits upper-90s and can touch 102. He pairs that with a slider that has some of the highest RPM readings in the system and a change that flashes near-Bugs Bunny effect. His big issue is putting the ball in the strike zone. His start this week was no different. He tossed four no-hit innings, walking three and striking out 11. That’s right, he recorded 11 of his 12 outs via strikeout. The issue is that he only placed 37 of his 73 pitches in the strike zone. If Teodo could even achieve 50 control, he’d be an elite prospect with ace upside. As it sits, he projects as a likely reliever, and he’d still need to improve his control to be successful in that role.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
