Minor League Baseball Top Performers
After a day’s absence, we’re back with the top minor league baseball performers of the day. Let’s take a look of the top players from Thursday as we prepare for the weekend in the minors.
Hitter of the Day
With tremendous bloodlines as the son of Roger Clemens, Kody Clemens was already well-known when he was drafted by the Tigers out of the University of Texas in the third round in 2018. He’s hit his way up the Detroit system, with a glove that doesn’t really fit at any one position, but he can handle anywhere in the infield but short. Clemens’ bat is loaded with power, and now and then, he will have a day like he did on Thursday, when he took over a doubleheader for Toledo, going a combined 6-8 with five RBI, hitting two doubles and a home run.
Pitcher of the Day
The Cleveland Guardians’ system is showing very well on the mound this season, and Georgia State alum Hunter Gaddis is simply among the crowd as he’s posted a 2.50ish ERA, 1.00ish WHIP, and struck out more than 12 batters per nine innings throughout the season. Gaddis is an aggressive pitcher on the mound, attacking hitters with a heavy fastball that works easily into the mid-90s and a hard, sharp slider as his second pitch. He’s used his change with more effectiveness this season and controls all of his pitches well, which makes what he did Thursday not surprising at all. Gaddis took the mound for Double-A Akron and struck out 11 hitters over six no-hit innings, walking just one hitter in a dominant performance.

Today’s games
Pitching matchup of the day
If their respective NL East parent teams have their way, the matchup Friday between Tim Cate of Wilmington and Mick Abel of Jersey Shore will be just the first of many future matchups between the Nationals and Phillies prospects. Cate is currently on rehab with the Blue Rocks, and the lefty has one of the better curveballs in the minor leagues, potentially fitting into a role at the back of a major league rotation. Abel is an exciting young arm that the Phillies hope develops into a future frontline starter.
