Minor League Baseball Top Performers

The minor league baseball season has hit full stride, with the selection for hitter of the day and pitcher of the day getting tougher with a full slate of full-season league games each day now.

Hitter of the Day
The Minnesota Twins drafted Christian Encarnacion-Strand out of Oklahoma State in the fourth round in 2021. He had a big pro debut, hitting .391/.424/.598 in 87 at-bats with Fort Myers at Single-A. He’s definitely not slowed down to open 2022, picking up nine hits in his first ten at-bats of the 2022 season, including four extra base hits. Saturday, the Cedar Rapids third baseman went 5-5 with three runs scored, five RBI, a double, a home run, and a stolen base.

Pitcher of the Day
The pandemic did bad things for Mackenzie Gore’s value in the prospect world. He struggled with performance on the mound and consistently repeating his mechanics. This led to a loss of velocity and a change in the shape of his breaking stuff. He responded with offseason work that led to Gore being one of the last cuts by the Padres in spring training, and if he keeps pitching like he did on Saturday, he’ll work his way back up in a hurry after going five innings for El Paso, allowing two hits and no walks, striking out seven.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
