Minor League Baseball Weekly Top Performers

The hitting performances this week across minor league baseball were amazing, but one of the elite ascending prospects shined above the rest while a fringe pitching prospect had a career week.

Hitter of the Week
Signed for $2.75 million out of the Dominican by the Twins, Emmanuel Rodriguez has established himself in his first season in full-season ball. After the first week of June, Rodriguez is the only qualified minor leaguer with a wRC+ over 200 and is leading all qualified minor league hitters in on-base with a .495 mark. While he started out strong, Rodriguez has made an adjustment after pitchers made their adjustment to his hot start, showing his ability to adapt at the plate. The past week, he had the highest OPS of any qualified hitter in the minors, slashing .583/.700/1.500 with a double, two triples, two home runs, and a steal. He will rocket up prospect lists in the offseason, so grab him as quick as possible in dynasty leagues!

Pitcher of the Week
Strictly a reliever before this season, Juan Mercedes transitioned to a starting role this season for the first time since the Mariners signed him out of the Dominican in 2017. The righty has mixed good starts with bad throughout the year so far, working at multiple levels, but with Everett this week, he made two appearances, the first of which was the first no-hitter in the history of the Everett organization. On the week, Mercedes tossed 12 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, striking out 14. Mercedes likely has a ceiling as an up-and-down backend starter/length reliever, so this is definitely a career highlight for him to enjoy.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
