Minor league baseball weekly top performers for April 19, 2022

Minor League Baseball Top Performers

The format for the weekly wrapup is better set with focus on the performance of the past week and providing the overall statistical leaders across all of the minor leagues. Enjoy!

Hitter of the Week
While there are many players who put up big power numbers on the week, knocking out as many as eight extra base hits on the week, Max Ferguson of the Padres system has been elite in a different manner. The former Tennessee standout opened in Single-A and led the minors this week in runs scored and stolen bases, going .444/.621/.556 with 11 runs scored and nine stolen bases on the week. Ferguson leads the minors with 10 steals on the season as the leadoff hitter for the Padres’ Single-A affiliate. He’ll likely be moving up quickly, but with the Padres already working Ferguson at multiple positions, the pace of his ascension through the minors may have less to do with his offensive skills and more with finding his defensive home.

Pitcher of the Week
The Atlanta Braves have multiple guys who qualified for this honor this week, and the top two of the week both came from the Braves organization. The guy I chose is the current minor league leader in strikeouts, Royber Salinas, currently pitching for the Single-A Augusta GreenJackets. Salinas struck out 13 in five shutout innings this week for Augusta and now has 24 strikeouts on the season. Salinas has thrown primarily fastballs and sliders, working into the upper-90s with his heater and commanding his biting slider significantly better to open 2022 than he’s shown in the past. He’ll need to show a third pitch and/or continued success with his

Today’s games

Pitching matchup of the day
Max Meyer takes the hill for Jacksonville tonight as the Jumbo Shrimp host the Gwinnett Stripers and Touki Toussaint. Meyer fired five perfect innings his last time out and has shown exceptional stuff thus far in 2022 while Toussaint is attempting to cement himself as part of the Braves’ plans in a deep young pitching core.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
