Minor league baseball top performers for April 16, 2022
Minor League Baseball Top Performers
Some impressive hitting performances across the minor leagues made selecting a top hitter a tough choice from Friday’s games. Let’s take a look at the top performers:
Hitter of the Day
Outfielder Kyle Stowers was drafted by the Orioles out of Stanford with a reputation for big power and solid corner defense. The lefty-swinging Stowers has long levers that lead to plenty of swing and miss in his game, but he also generates plenty of oomph when he connects. This year, he’s only struck out once on the season, which has been impressive, and Friday, he had a huge game, blasting out four extra-base hits for Norfolk. He went 4-5 with three doubles and a home run against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, scoring three runs and driving in five runs, adding in a walk as well to his day.
Pitcher of the Day
An undrafted free agent out of Fordham in 2020, John Stankiewicz doesn’t really have raw stuff that would set him apart. He works with a five-pitch mix featuring a fastball, cutter, slider, curve, and change, with all four pitches working between 77-92 MPH, so there’s not a ton of separation in velocity. He mixed all five pitches well, generating 15 swinging strikes over six shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks, striking out 11 as Fort Myers defeated Jupiter.
