Minor League Baseball Daily Top Performers for April 14, 2022

Minor League Baseball Top Performers

Though Clayton Kershaw was pulled before he could make history against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate was the victim of the first no-hitter of the minor league baseball season. Let’s take a look at more from that and other top performers from Wednesday!

Hitter of the Day
After catching more “national” attention at Arizona Fall League with his performance last October, Juan Yepez made a valiant effort to claim the designated hitter spot in St. Louis this spring before the Cardinals signed a franchise icon for his retirement tour. That sent Yepez back to Triple-A, and he struggled with the demotion to open the season. Wednesday was his breakout game, as Yepez went 3-5 with a pair of home runs, scoring three times, driving in six, and adding a walk as well.

Pitcher of the Day
Three pitchers spun the season’s first no-hitter, but Chase De Jong was the guy who kicked things off for Indianapolis. The 28-year-old veteran is on his sixth organization with the Pirates after originally being drafted by the Blue Jays in 2012 out of high school. De Jong isn’t a fireballer and likely isn’t going to have a renaissance that allows him to suddenly become an elite MLB starter, but Wednesday night, he had his peak moment, tossing seven innings, walking two hitters, and striking out nine before giving way to two relievers to finish out the no-hitter.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
