Minor League Baseball Top Performers

Even though a significant amount of doubleheaders were completed across minor league baseball on Saturday, many more were rained out, leading to a number more that are either moved to today or being played later in the season. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers enjoying a game of hardball on your special day!

Hitter of the Day
A 16th round pick in 2019 by the Chicago White Sox, DJ Gladney was known to have immense raw power at the plate but has struggled to make consistent contact in his minor league career thus far. He’s repeating Single-A Kannapolis this year, and the White Sox are certainly hoping that Saturday’s showing begins Gladney tapping into his raw juice more often as he went 4-5 with a pair of home runs and a pair of doubles in a Friday game that was officially completed on Saturday.

Pitcher of the Day
Though he left college after 2016, Jared Koenig‘s pro experience before 2021 consisted of independent league baseball and Australian winter league ball. The A’s gave him a shot, and he showed well with Midland in 2021, showing a strong mentality on the mound, which outpaced his raw stuff, which featured a fastball that topped out in the mid-90s from the left side and a trio of secondary offerings that check individually at average-at-best. He’s continued to show well in Triple-A this season, and Saturday, he was nothing short of dominant, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk, striking out 10.

Today’s games

Pitching matchup of the day
Taj Bradley has established himself as a top pitching prospect in the game in the Tampa Bay Rays system. He takes the hill for Montgomery Sunday against Biloxi’s 30-year-old Tyler Herb, who has bounced around the minors for many years but is pitching at a level that he never has before after signing as a minor league free agent with the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason.

After 6 years of writing for FanSided on various sites and offering contributions to various other websites, family changes have encouraged me to start this site. I spend a ton of time watching baseball at all levels, but I love watching minor league baseball on milb.tv as I'm hours away from the closest minor league team. This is an effort of all those games I enjoy on a daily basis!
